Troubleshooting

Sometimes things go wrong. If this is happening to you, please look through some of these potential problems and solutions, and contact us if you’re still having trouble.

Matlab runtime won’t install

Are you using the runtime installer provided by University of Southampton? This must be a 2011 version of the Matlab runtime, it is not sufficient to simply have Matlab installed on your computer. Are you running a 64bit system? 64bit is required. Do you have administrator rights for your computer? These are probably required for successful installation of the Matlab runtime.

Train Noise Expert won’t install

Are you running a 64bit system? 64bit is required. Do you have administrator rights for your computer? These are probably required for successful installation.

Train Noise Expert won’t run

Do you have the USB protection key correctly inserted, and is it recognised by your computer (it should appear as a disk drive called “TNE_KEY”)?

Error when running calculations

Do you have the Matlab 2011 runtime installed? This is required for running the calculations. Double check all input parameters, especially that file paths are correct, and that the values in external files are correct. If in doubt, try using default/template files. For large calculations, you should check your memory usage to verify that the calculation is not running out of memory. Finally, the results folder structure can cause path lengths that are too long for Windows, we therefore recommend that the project folder be situated ‘close’ to the root of your hard drive rather than buried in many subfolders.
